Customer cards

You can use BillPro to manage cards for your customers and accept payments. You can display and manage customer cards from the order, order payments, and customer account sections.

We recommend that the customer add a card to pay for an order, and it is convenient to use a payment link. For subscription, instalment, and metered orders, the customer must save a card. For single payment orders, the customer can save their card for future orders.

To update cards for card expiry, or lost or stolen cards, see Update cards.

PCI Compliance

You must use the 3D secure virtual terminal or payment links to save card details.

If the customer is not ready to use the card in an order, you can add the card to customer's wallet. See Manage customer cards. Then the card can be selected for the customer's order.

You can also set a preferred card and deactivate cards so that they cannot be used in future orders.

Customers manage their cards with email links

Customers can use the links in email notifications to add and update cards in their orders. The email notifications to send a payment link and remind the customer of their pending orders contain payment links. See Order ready and reminder .

In addition, by default, BillPro automatically sends a reminder on the 15th day of the month before a card expires, after a card has expired, or when a card has been blocked or cancelled. See Card expiring and expired and update. BillPro also sends emails before each subscription payment and when billing events are declined. See Subscription renew and paused and resumed and Scheduled payment approved and declined and rejected. For declined payments, you can contact the customer, and they can use a checkout link in a previous email, which remains valid until the transaction is approved.

You can also send the customer an email notification with a link to update their card details. See the Card Details Update notification at Card expiring and expired and update.

Adding cards over the phone

When you are adding cards over the phone, BillPro offers a secure payment iframe to enter card details, with support for 3DS verification. Most card issuers require 3DS verification to save card details. BillPro does not save sensitive card data, instead it saves a secure token to represent the card.

For details on how to take an initial payment over the phone, see Collect payments. For details of how to save card details for the customer for future use, see Manage customer cards.

To register cards, the minimum amount to authorise depends on the acquirer, and this is part of your merchant configuration in BillPro. See Card registration amount at Get set up in BillPro. When you register a card, this amount is reserved on the card as a pre-authorisation transaction and after a few days, it is released.
